We already know how popular Oscar Isaac is around these parts and hey, did you also know his Force Awakens’ pilot Poe was originally a smaller role (Dameron was supposed to die). But, of course Isaac made such an impression on J.J. Abrams that the director figured out a way to keep him around, and though we don’t get to see near enough of the character, Disney and Lucasfilm have clearly realized how popular the character is. So popular, in fact, that POE IS GETTING HIS OWN MARVEL COMIC SERIES.
Charles Soule (Inhuman, She-Hulk) and Phil Noto (Black Widow, Jonah Hex) are creating the new series which will explore new and old Star Wars locations, and finds Dameron encountering a new First Order villain.
“Sometimes it can feel like the Star Wars universe is so well trodden and so many stories have already been told. But the way the Episode VII galaxy is set up, there are opportunities for new archetypes almost, and the bad guy we’re working with is going to feel fresh and cool.” (Soule)
Poe’s pal BB-8 will join him on his adventures, and Soule says other new X-Wing pilots will also feature.
Like all of us, Soule is happy to have Oscar Isaac as inspiration.
“Seeing so much of him on screen, it’s easier in a way to act that part out in my head while I’m drawing: How would Oscar Isaac act in this situation as Poe Dameron?”
*ahem* May I be so bold as to suggest some particular study material?
Happy Friday, y’all!
