Chewbacca Finally Puts an End to the 'Han Shot First' Question

At last, our long international nightmare is over. Any question of who shot first, Han or Greedo, has been destroyed, courtesy of Chewbacca himself, Peter Mayhew.

Of course the only person who’s actually trying to keep the idea that the question even exists alive is George Lucas. The rest of us already knew that.

This comes hot on the heels of a new interview with Lucas at the Hollywood Reporter where he doubles-down on his “no, seriously, you guys, Greedo shot first” revisionist nonsense.

The controversy over who shot first, Greedo or Han Solo, in Episode IV, what I did was try to clean up the confusion, but obviously it upset people because they wanted Solo [who seemed to be the one who shot first in the original] to be a cold-blooded killer, but he actually isn’t. It had been done in all close-ups and it was confusing about who did what to whom. I put a little wider shot in there that made it clear that Greedo is the one who shot first, but everyone wanted to think that Han shot first, because they wanted to think that he actually just gunned him down.

And Peter Mayhew had but one thing to say to that. Did he go frame by frame using an original VHS to prove Lucas wrong? No. That’s for mere mortals. Chewie used a tool far more powerful—his script.

Yeah! Take that, Lucas. Take that, “Alien.”
