All the Star Wars Tidbits To Shove In Your Tauntaun

Science Fiction … Friday? It’s a weird week, ya’ll. But there’s a lot of terribly important things happening with regard to Star Wars so let’s just jump right to it.

First of all, I’m not sure if any of you have heard, but there’s a new Star Wars movie coming out in just 13 days. If you still don’t have tickets for opening night, here’s a good site for finding the nearest theater to you and the ticket availability therein.

Second, we’ve got a new hip-hop album called Life After Death Star that remixes Biggie’s Life After Death with the Star Wars sound tracks. The entire album is free and can be listened to below. I feel very very old right now.

But not to worry, the third item is perhaps the most important movie tie-in. That’s right. Ice cream. You can’t have a proper blockbuster without official ice cream flavors. Remember when Fury Road just sold frozen sand? Good times. Here’s what the official light and dark side ice creams look like:

I was all set to be terribly cynical but this ice cream is made by a single creamery in Brooklyn, by a couple who pitched the idea to Disney CEO Bob Iger after he tried their ice cream and loved it. Which is kind of nifty. More details, including where to order it and what the two different flavors entail are found here.

Finally, an economist who is my kind of academic published a paper estimating the size of the galactic economy in the Star Wars films, the costs of the two Death Stars, and the resultant effects of their destruction upon the galactic economy. Math and science fiction, like peanut butter and chocolate. Details here.
