The sci-fi comedy drama, Cocoon was a big hit for Ron Howard back in 1985, earning $85 million at the box office and even spawning a much less successful sequel, Cocoon: The Return. Loosely based on a novel by David Saperstein, the film followed a group of senior citizens who trespassed into a swimming pool, where they found themselves swimming with alien cocoons, giving them youthful vigor. It was a sweet, life-affirming film with a ton of heart that was as beloved by most critics as it was audiences. In fact, it got two exuberant thumbs up from Ebert and Siskel back in the day.
