It happened again. It will continue to happen until we stop voting in individuals who are lining their pockets with NRA blood money and turning a blind eye to the death of our children and citizens in acts of senseless gun violence.

Parkland, Florida was the latest school shooting and students are saying the white, male shooter had a history of abusing his ex-girlfriend and threatening her new boyfriend. So he brought an AR-15 to school and destroyed the lives of 17 families.

The predictable responses came from the gun lobby, calling out all those who would “politicize” this tragedy with the call for stricter gun control laws. It was the same as always. Until the kids who had just suffered through the most terrifying ordeal of their lives began responding to them.

And in closing, this isn’t a tweet, but this text (via the NYTimes) from a high school kid to her mom during the shooting may break you:

“If I don’t make it,” a student, hiding in a sweltering storage room, texted her mother, “I love you and I appreciate everything you did for me.”

What she thought might be her final words was an expression of gratitude to her mother.

There are a lot of amazing kids in this world. The adults need to do something to protect them.
