In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court has struck down the Defense of Marriage Act, ruling it unconstitutional, meaning that states can no longer deny federal benefits to married couples of any sexual orientation. Here is the ruling. The Supreme Court has also ruled that opponents of same-sex marriage in California have nno standing to sue, which means that gay marriage in California is legal.
