You are watching Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, yes? Because it’s amazing. And as Vivian said, dark and weird and hilarious and mostly brutally honest. And it manages to be an amazing show with one of the best new characters of the season while also being a musical. A really, really good musical.
To be sure this isn’t any Glee level nonsense where characters re-work famous songs to set the mood. Crazy Ex- Girlfriend’s songs perfectly parody traditional musical songs while also being impressively good musical numbers. Like everybody here knows that high school theater directors are going to have to listen to at least 5 renditions of “Settle For Me” during spring musical auditions. Yeah, it’s that good.
But some of the songs are more good than others. Below is the definitive ranking of the musical numbers during Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s first 5 episodes.
Honorable Mention - Opening Credits
She’s so broken inside.
11.) I Have Friends
This song is bland enough that I forgot it existed the first time though this list. Sorry, Rachel and Young Rachel’s friends.
10.) I’m So Good At Yoga
9.) Baby, You Can Kiss All Your Childhood Trauma Good-Bye
8.) Hey Sexy Stranger
7.) I’m A Good Person
6.) I Love My Daughter
5.) West Covina
4.) Sexy Getting Ready Song
3.) Settle for Me
I know this’ll be a bit of an upset. I’m not saying “Settle For Me” isn’t great. I’m just saying it’s not as great as the top two songs.
2.) Feeling Kinda Naughty
1.) Face Your Fears
Stars aren’t that hot.
