It’s never really possible to recapture lightning in a bottle. We all know this. That doesn’t mean we don’t get a kick out of two actors we’ve come to love together reuniting. Be it a guest spot on a TV show or a brief cameo in a film, these meet cutes send a little jolt of joy and recognition to our brains. And though those reunions can sometimes feel forced, they can, when done right, be a beautiful thing. So here are 8 TV Reunions I’d like to see. I don’t mean to overstate the case, but I think they’d make the world a better place.
Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham on “Parenthood”: Bledel hasn’t done much with her post “Gilmore Girls” career. She was passably good last season on “Mad Men,” but she’s never been able to recapture that early Rory Gilmore sparkle. So while I wouldn’t trade Mae Whitman for the whole wide world, I propose we bring Bledel in to date Graham’s other TV spawn, Drew Braverman. So what if he’s a teenager? Bledel looks permanently 17.
Jason Dohring and Kristen Bell on “House Of Lies”: After an abysmal season on the CW’s “Ringer,” Dohring deserves to be brought back in to the quality TV fold. His brand of sleazy charm would fit in perfectly with Kristen Bell’s current home, “House Of Lies.” Bring him in as a client or, better yet, a business rival. The sparks alone would invigorate the series.
Ian McShane and Timothy Olyphant on “Justfied”: Sure McShane has had a film career post-“Deadwood,” but it’s been filled with sub-par fare like Pirates Of The Caribbean and Snow White And The Huntsman. And as much as I’ve loved the various antagonists on “Justified,” I crave a Swearengen/Bullock rematch. In the meantime, we can take comfort in the fact that we’ll be seeing McShane soon enough on “American Horror Story”.
Josh Holloway and Elizabeth Mitchell on “Revolution”: Remember when Sawyer was one of the best things going on TV? Now Josh Holloway fans can look forward to Battle of the Year: The Dream Team wherein “an American b-boy crew heads to France to compete at the Battle of the Year International Championships.” If that doesn’t wet your whistle, he’s got fourth billing in an upcoming Harrison Ford thriller. So he’s got that going for him. Which is nice. Anyway, “Revolution” is just the latest in a long line of pretty dreadful “Lost” knock-offs, but if it were Holloway in the lead “Rakish Uncle” role, that would improve things considerably. It would also give the lovely Elizabeth Mitchell something to do other than mope in a candlelit rooms.
Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton on “Nashville”: Strike that. I wouldn’t wish a “Nashville” guest spot on my worst enemy. Besides, Kyle Chandler is doing quite well for himself, movie career wise. The real tragedy is what in the ever-loving f*ck is Connie Britton doing on this show? Where in the blazes is her film career?
Jared Leto and Claire Danes on “Homeland”: Leto hasn’t made a film since 2009 and though he has a few in the hopper, I’d much rather see him on “Homeland.” As a love interest? Oh no. I’d like to see Claire Danes go full-blown, off-her-meds crazy on Leto’s character. Preferably there would be physical violence involved. Why? Because Jordan Catalano was a self-involved prick, that’s why. And I’d like Angela Chase to have some closure.
Alternatively….Sarah Shahi and Damian Lewis on “Homeland”: I mentioned my love for “Life” just yesterday and with apologies to the lovely Zuleikha Robinson, I think the tension and chemistry between Shahi and Lewis make her a much better fit for the Roya role.
Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson on “Hart of Dixie”: I’ve heard this is actually a pretty cute show. I mean, I watched an episode and saw no evidence of that. But, hey, to each his or her own. That being said, if Brody (and Captain Oats) were to show up then this would become required viewing. Should Adam Brody have a film career? He should. Should that film career involve (no joke) a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie? It most assuredly should not. So come back to TV, Seth Cohen. You can be, once again, the king of the nerds.
Tip of the Stetson to Bert The Pajiban for the idea!
