The 7 Most Promising Movies of the Fall Based only on the Trailers

As the summer movie season fizzles out here in August, as it seems to do every year, we can begin to look forward to the fall season, the weeks between September 1st and Thanksgiving. I tend to get so fed up with the summer season that I start wearing long-sleeved shirts on August 1st in the hopes of hastening the fall. Unfortunately, it doesn’t change the fact that we still have to suffer through Final Destination 5 before the season of Gosling begins.

It’s an unusually rich fall season, especially if you compare it to 2010. A list of the 7 Most Promising Movies of the Fall 2010 Based only on the Trailers might’ve included The Social Network and The Town, but after that it would’ve crapped out. The next three might’ve been Easy A (a better movie than the trailer portended), The American and It’s Kind of a Funny Story (both of which ended up being disappointments). To fill out the list, we might have had to include Due Date and, er, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps?

But the Fall of 2011 has seven great looking films, at least judging by their trailers alone. Each also boasts excellent talent, too, meaning that this summer’s Oscar contenders may not be drawn primarily from the Thanksgiving to Christmas period, as has been true in a lot of past years

It’s enough to elicit full-borne excitement for the fall season. Two or three of these, as is inevitable, may turn out to be disappointments, but which one would you not want to see?
