I never understood the UK’s obsession with disliking gingers. I don’t know if it’s media created, or if it’s real, but there are plenty of news reports out of the UK that suggest that discrimination against redheads is real, and that it stems from some sort of latent dislike for the Scottish. I dunno. It’s probably bunk, but there is an entry on redhead discrimination in Wikipedia, and plenty of media coverage on “gingerism.” I thought it was just a weird, UK-centric gag, but maybe there’s more to it. Maybe there’s not. I don’t want to speculate on those things of which I do not know.
What I do know, however, is this, and I know it with absolute certainty: As a percentage of all the ungodly attractive people in film and television, redheads from the UK dominate. In the United States, we have Christina Hendrix, Gillian Anderson, Amy Adams, and Julianne Moore (who is of Scottish descent), but by and large, the pool of ridiculously hot redheads reside in the UK. Here’s the ten best (and no: I don’t know if they’re natural redheads or not. Also, I don’t care).
