Please, Please Tell Me Now: Five Things You May Not Have Heard About This Week

I find the Important Stuff so you don’t have to.

5. Madonna Got Herself Into Hot Water Again.

After French fans waited overnight and paid up to 280€ to see Her Madgesty perform in Paris, the show was nearly over when it started. Come on girl, you had to know that when people pay the kind of money they pay to see you, forty-five minutes isn’t going to cut it. Disappointed attendees booed, called Madonna some nasty names and Tweeted their disgust.

4. Gabriel Byrne and Charlotte Rampling Got Together for a Little Trouble.

The directorial debut of Rampling’s son (Barnaby Southcombe), I, Anna is a “psychological film noir” that features Byrne as a detective suffering insomnia, going through a divorce and investigating a murder. Rampling stars as the mysterious woman who catches his eye, and—I’m guessing—has a little something in common with Sharon Stone’s Catherine Tramell.

3. AMC Decided They Want Us to Believe (In Them Again).

After announcing the death of “The Killing,” (duh!) the cable network followed up with news of a new series, “Area 51.” Based on Annie Jacobsen’s best-selling non-fiction book Area 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base, the series will focus on the secrets of the famed military installation—but not necessarily for the reason you might think. Jacobsen, an investigative reporter, had gained access to personnel who actually worked at the facility and uncovered all kinds of information about weapons and bombs and espionage—maybe even experimentation on humans—but nothing much to do with the rumored aliens and UFOs for which the Nevada locale is so famous. Executive Producer Gale Anne Hurd (“The Walking Dead”) will work with (Writer) Todd Ellis Kessler (“The Good Wife, The Unit”) and Jacobsen, who”ll be co-producing the series. AMC is offering up More (Mad) Men in Black (Suits)? Yes please.

2. The Stars Continued Piling On for Ridley Scott’s Adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s The Counselor; Audiences Become Hopeful That Yes, We Can Get Past Prometheus.

Dean Norris and Rosie Perez are the latest additions to McCarthy’s dark script about a lawyer who gets into trouble when he tries to expand his business…by trafficking drugs. Why hello there, Javier Bardem! The Counselor also stars Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Penélope Cruz and Cameron Diaz.

1. Larry David, Jon Hamm and Michael Keaton’s Secret Project Headed to HBO.

Though some were expecting this little mystery film to head to theaters, it looks like HBO is making use of its longstanding relationship with its “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star. The untitled comedy improv will be directed by Greg Mottola (Superbad, Paul, Adventureland, “The Newsroom”) and co-written by David’s “Curb” collaborators, Alec Berg, David Mandel, and Jeff Schaffer. More Hamm, please.

Cindy Davis likes Hamm and cheese, Hamm on rye, Hamm with mustard and even Hamm and pineapple pizza.
