I find the Important Stuff so you don’t have to.

5. Louis CK Wrote a Love Letter to NYC.

Before he hosted last night’s SNL, the cynical ol’ teddy bear took a few moments to wax poetic. And yea, it was sweet. (*sniff*)

4. Mythbusters Announced a “Breaking Bad” Episode.

After reading showrunner Vince Gilligan’s answer to which show he’d like to do a crossover event with—“‘Mythbusters.’ I’d dig seeing those guys prove or disprove some of the crazy stuff we’ve done on Breaking Bad”—the Discovery program jumped. They’ll do an upcoming episode, including an appearance by Aaron Paul and Gilligan. The gang will test Season 1’s infamous bathtub scene science, but not Walt’s crystal meth formula. In fact, there are so many “Breaking Bad” possibilities to explore, “Mythbusters” is already looking at doing a follow-up episode. The first is expected to air, spring 2013.

3. ABC Announced Alex Proyas Will Direct “Evolve,” Based on the Toxic City Trilogy.

The good news for science fiction fans is that neither J.J. Abrams nor Damon Lindelof is anywhere near this thing. Instead, Director Alex Proyas (Dark City, I, Robot, The Crow) will head up this new series based on the novels by Bram Stoker and British Fantasy award winning author, Tim Lebbon. The series follows what happens after the government discovers Los Angeles has been hit with a biological toxin and closes off the city, letting no one in or out. A group of people trying to find out about family/friends inside discover the official story may not be the truth, and there is more going on than what they’ve been told. “Evolve” will be written and co-executive produced by “Eureka’s” Jaime Paglia.

2. Saoirse Ronan Joined Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel.

Though as usual, we’ve gotten only minimal plot information for Anderson’s sure-to-be-charming next feature—“the troubles and tribulations of Mr. Gustave [Ralph Fiennes], who serves as the hotel’s perfectly composed concierge”—his impeccable guest list continues to grow. Saoirse Ronan has signed on as the female lead in this period piece, which takes place about 85 years ago, and is “inspired partly by Hollywood Europe, and also by some European writers around that time.” Specifically, Anderson mentions as his influences Ernst Lubitsch’s To Be or Not to Be, The Shop Around the Corner and Rouben Mamoulian’s Love Me Tonight. In addition to Ronan and Fiennes, Grand Budapest Hotel stars Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Jude Law, Jeff Goldblum and Owen Wilson.

1. Soderbergh’s Side Effects Trailer Premiered.

Director Steven Soderbergh is all over the creative map these days. He’s followed up an outing in science fiction (Contagion) with an action flick (Haywire), then a comedy (Magic Mike); next up is a television documentary film about Liberace (“Behind the Candelabra”), and the upcoming crime thriller, Side Effects, starring Rooney Mara, Channing Tatum, Jude Law and Catherine Zeta Jones. Mara stars as a woman put on anxiety meds by her psychiatrist (Law), to help her deal with her husband’s (Tatum) return home after a stint in prison. Apparently the pills have a bizarre side effect…murder?

Meanwhile, Jude Law Just Signed on for Werner Herzog’s Queen of the Desert.

Herzog’s biography will chronicle the intriguing life of writer, cartographer, explorer, archeologist and politico, Gertrude Bell—played by Naomi Watts. Though Law’s role is unknown; he joins Robert Pattinson (as T.E. Lawrence, aka Lawrence of Arabia). Filming begins in Morocco, March 2013.

Cindy Davis hopes all your lights are back on.
