Five Tricky Television Moves That Might Raise Your Sleepy Wednesday Eyebrow

A few interesting checkerboard moves around the television board…

1. Walton Goggins Developed a New Show for Fox…Maybe for Himself?

We’ve all worried over Boyd Crowder’s future, especially since the moment *SPOILER if you’ve not yet watched Season 4, SKIM…

he slipped that ring onto Ava’s finger, but that doesn’t mean we’re ready to let him go. Goggins (whose production company partner is Ray McKinnon; the two developed “Rectify,” which Goggins was originally supposed to headline) has co-written “Gringo,” about “a cop who moves south of the border…and gets caught up with the Mexican drug cartel.” Variety says it’s “unclear” whether Goggins intends to star.As much as I love Raylan, losing Boyd would be hard to take, but the idea of Goggins headlining his own show is pretty goshdarned tantalizing.

2. Mae Whitman Read for the Lead in Lauren Graham’s New Show.

Those “Parenthood” girls may be in cahoots to give the gorgeous and talented Whitman more screen time; who could argue with that? Nearly as soon as Lauren Graham’s first novel hit the stores, the CW began developing it as a show (Graham will write and executive produce). Someday, Someday, Maybe follows a young woman’s plan to be an actress in NYC; Graham brought in her co-star and onscreen daughter to audition for the lead (noting that “We’re all here at ‘Parenthood’ through next year”). So, I guess we can all look forward to sobbing our eyes out (again) after newlyweds Amber and Ryan die in a horrific car crash?

3. Joshua Jackson Jumped Right from “Fringe” to Showtime’s “The Affair.”

Can you even imagine having JJ, along with these three people, in your living room every week:

Look at that group of actors; do we even care what the show is about? No. The answer is no, we don’t. But I’ll tell you anyway, because: sexy times. West will play Noah, a married high school teacher who has an affair with Allison (Wilson), who is married to Pacey Jackson, a “hard-edged” Long Island cowboy. Tierney stars as Helen, Noah’s wife of 17 years. “The Affair” will come at…the affair from each character’s perspective. Do we presume Jackson and Tierney will have a revenge affair?

4. Fake “Sherlock” Series 3 Scenes Were Filmed to Fool Onlookers and Spies.

Oh you Clever boys. Jeremy Lovering, who is directing season opener “The Empty Hearse,” let on that not everything filmed actually happens:

5. “Luther” Will Receive the Prequel Treatment.

First, listen to me carefully; Do Not go looking for more about this news unless you’ve already seen Series 3—you will be (crushingly) spoiled. And please no spoilers in the comments.

Creator and writer Neil Cross says most of the cast (sadly, not Ruth Wilson) will return for a “Luther” film prequel that follows Luther’s early career, while he’s still married to Zoe. “…the final scene in the film is the first of the initial TV series.” Cross has already written the script, and filming is expected to take place next year. For those stateside, Series 3 airs on BBCA, September 3-6.

Cindy Davis, (Twitter) is still reeling from episode 3.4.
