Certain actors were born for lead roles, and these eight favorites have been pussyfooting around a little too long. That is to say, they’ve got movies and miniseries, guest parts and voiceovers, but we’re tired of waiting. We want you in major roles, lighting up our dim living rooms and hanging out alongside us on our overstuffed couches. We’ll share the snacks, pinky swear!
Alexander Skarsgård
Movie star, schmovie star; get back to where you once belonged.
Last major role on TV: True Blood, 2014
Allison Tolman
If there’s anything clear to me watching this season of Fargo, it’s that I miss Molly Solverson’s sharp mind, and Tolman’s perfect delivery. This fantastic actress needs to headline her own show like…yesterday.
Last major role on TV: Fargo, 2014
Bill Paxton
Paxton is a natural for any I-look-like-a-good-guy-but-I’m-really-a-bad-guy role, and he belongs at the head of a television family (something along the lines of Bloodline, please).
Last major role on TV: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., 2014
Holly Hunter
The female equivalent of Matthew McConaughey was born to lead a series, and we still miss her Grace. Make it dark, make it gritty; make it slapstick or silly, Hunter can handle anything thrown her way. Come to think of it, she’d be absolutely perfect on the next round of Fargo, just renewed for another season. Speaking of McConaughey…
Last major role on TV: Top of the Lake, 2013
Matthew McConaughey
If the rumors McConaughey will take on a major role in that combined film/television adaptation of Stephen King’s Dark Tower series are true, we may get our wish. Alright, alright…well, you know.
Last major role on TV: True Detective, 2014
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler
I know they’re not a package deal, but Poehler and Fey go together as naturally as chocolate ice cream and smashed potato chips (WHAT? Try it!). These ladies are pure gold and that they haven’t been snatched up for what would be the next great sitcom is a crying shame. Throw them in a New York City apartment, workplace…running a restaurant together…ANYTHING. We’ll watch.
Last major role on TV: 30 Rock, 2013 (Fey) and Welcome to Sweden/Parks and Recreation, 2015 (Poehler)
Mads Mikkelsen
I don’t know how it can only be three months since last we saw Mads with his one true (TV) love, because it already feels like years. Give him back, Denmark; he’s officially marked for permanent import.
Last major role on TV: Hannibal, 2015
