5 Television Series So Good We Wanted to Start Right Back Up the Minute They Ended

The thing about binge-watching television series is that you end up with some of the same feelings you get after binging anything — you’re tired and overwhelmed, a little guilty you didn’t savor it more, and you want to go back to that moment you started. WHAT? IT CAN’T BE OVER ALREADY.

That’s pretty much how I felt last night after watching the final episode of Netflix’s excellent Bloodline, which if you haven’t yet watched (WHY?!), get on it right now. In fact, I am so crushed it’s over, and I so don’t want to leave that world, I’m considering starting it all over again. As in, immediately. There are sure to be things I missed the first time around, and I really need to get back inside those characters’ heads. There are only a few times I’ve felt this way, so I’ll kick off with 5 series, and I’m sure you guys will will have plenty to add in the comments.

Bloodline

They’re surrounded by an exceptional group of actors (Sam Shepard, Sissy Spacek, Linda Cardellini, Norbert Leo Butz), but this is the Ben Mendelsohn and Kyle Chandler tour de force you didn’t know you needed. Part family drama, part thriller, and a whole lot of you sitting with your jaw dropped.

Six Feet Under

You’d think falling in love with a show about death would be difficult, and with an ending that left us all in a puddle of snot and tears, why would we want to go back? Nate, Brenda, Claire, David and Keith — they made it worth whatever heartbreak we might suffer the second time around. Besides, salty tears go well with popcorn and booze.

Battlestar Galactica

Space is my frontier, and while I love all the Star Treks, there’s no other series I’ve watched three times through. Sinking into that often terrifying and harsh world to the lull of McCreary’s gorgeous soundtrack somehow feels like going home. Sure, it’s a home filled with killer Cylons that want to wipe out our entire race, but at least we’re surrounded by characters we love.

Breaking Bad

Look, we’re not the only ones who can’t deal with Jesse and Walt’s world being gone; AMC and Gilligan already transitioned everyone to Better Call Saul. And while Saul is swell, there were more than a few of us who were ready to dive right back in after “Felina;” what is dead on television may never die?

Seinfeld

Supremely ridiculous and full of the silliest people, yet somehow we all knew at least one of the core gang in our real lives. Comedy’s at its best when we can relate to the everyday stupidity of work and life, and our relationships with friends. Lucky for us, this is the one that’s never really over. We can relive and quote, and in our minds Seinfeld just goes on and on. (Yeah, we know some of you never got into it, but all we hear is “Yada, yada, yada.”)
