10 Movies That Had the Extreme Misfortune To Open The Same Weekend As A Mega-Blockbuster

By Josh Kurp | Lists | July 20, 2012 |

Hey guys, movie people did something smart: no other wide-release film was scheduled against The Dark Knight Rises this weekend! (Sorry, The Queen of Versailles and The Well Digger’s Daughter.) Because really, what’s the point? All anyone’s talking about is THE BATMAN, and even a kid-friendly flick would have a comically low box-office total when compared Rises. The Powers That Be, non-Wolfram & Hart division, hasn’t always been so wise, though. Here are 10 blockbusters, all of which finished as the top or second highest grossing film of their respective year, and the tiny, teeny (relatively speaking) wide-release movies that “competed” against them.
