Jonah Hill Hosted 'SNL,' And Here are the Three Sketches You Need to See Today

With the exception of the political segments, last night’s SNL was aggressively mediocre, and Jonah Hill probably has the distinction of being the least beloved four-time host. It’s not that he’s bad. He’s fine, but not the kind of multiple host that brings in the ratings (in fact, his 2012 episode was the lowest rated of that season). I think he’s the become SNL’s go-to when they can’t find anyone else to host.

There were a few worthy sketches, however. The cold open, the Trump commercial, and “Weekend Update” are worth the time, and maybe “The Champ” if you don’t have any other immediate plans.

CNN Election Center Cold Open — Jake Tapper covers the outcome of Super Tuesday, and while the bits on Hillary and Trump are great (and the segment with Ted Cruz physically appalling), the highlight is the return of Jason Sudeikis, perfectly trotting out his old Mitt Romney impression. I forgot how great it was. (Score: 8/10)

Jonah Hill Monologue — Hill forgoes his monologue to join Future for a performance of “Jumpman,” which is lightly amusing, but he also talks about how he hasn’t been in anything lately besides a glorified cameo in Hail Ceasar. I looked it up to confirm. He’s barely done anything since 22 Jump Street, and he only has one movie on tap this year. So why is he on? I think the show is just rotating him and Melissa McCarthy through so they can get add some contemporary actors into their five-timers club. (Score: 4/10)

Voters For Trump Ad — This is what we should all be doing more of: Instead of mocking Trump, shame his supporters. Do you want to be thought of as a racist Nazi? Well, then, don’t vote for Trump you asshole. (Score: 8/10)

Fond Du Lac News — Trish Wisnouski (Cecily Strong) and Joe Bush (Jonah Hill) bring you all of the news from Fond Du Lac, most of which has to do with a sex offender (Bobby Moynihan). Yeah, I don’t really get this sketch, either. (Score: 3/10)

The Champ — Everything is not as it seems when Nate (Jonah Hill) beats an undefeated opponent in a wrestling match. Honestly, this just feels … cruel. But funny cruel. (Score: 6/10)

School Auction — A fundraising auction takes a strange twist when a foreign bidder (Jonah Hill) severely out-bids the students’ parents. Nope. (Score: 3/10)

Weekend Update — The segment on OJ Simpson, honestly, just made me sad that Norm MacDonald wasn’t around. Otherwise, a pretty solid “Weekend Update,” with the return of The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation to talk politics, and Jay Pharoah dropping some killer impressions. (Score: 7/10)

Murder Mystery — For those of you who have always wanted to watch a sketch where Jonah Hill spends 5 minutes talking about taking a dump, this sketch is for you! (Score: 4/10)

Inside SoCal Newer One — It’s just so authentic. it’s just like the real thing, and the real thing is annoying as hell, too. (Score: 5/10)

Silver Star Catering —Funny and furiously annoying. I don’t know whether to laugh at Jonah Hill’s catering character and throw him down a flight of stairs. (Score: 5/10)
