10 Former ‘SNL’-ers Who Should Return to Host

Everyone’s favorite recent former SNL cast member, Bill Hader, comes back to host the show that turned him into a household name and Emmy nominee tomorrow night, so here are 10 other former performers and writers who should come back to host the show.

Hannibal Buress
The former SNL writer is blowing up all over the place with his standup and excellent run on Broad City, so why return to Studio 8H, possibly as his 30 Rock character, the Homeless Guy?

Stephen Colbert
I was shocked to learn that Colbert hasn’t hosted SNL yet, considering he wrote for Lorne Michaels and voiced Ace in “Ambiguously Gay Duo” (so that counts as being on the show). We don’t know exactly when Colbert’s The Late Show will start, so in the meantime, he could warm up those hosting skills by with an evening of SNL.

Joan Cusack
The better current Cusack and one season SNL-er (John, I’ll always think of you as the non-rebooted Lloyd Dobler) should be given the chance to show off that Cusack charm.

Larry David
David isn’t working on the next season of Curb Your Enthusiasm yet (WHEN WILL WE GET IT, LARRY, WHEN?!?!), and I’d rather he return to SNL than make another Clear History. Plus, he’ll be nearby when his Broadway run begins.

Rachel Dratch
Dratch manages to be in everyone else’s post-SNL project (30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, Up All Night, etc.). Why not actually SNL?

Will Forte
The class of 2001 (Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg, and Bill Hader after tomorrow) have already hosted so now it’s time for Forte, a late addition to that class, to do the same. Bring back the Falconer!

Ana Gasteyer
It’s surprising and reproachful that Gasteyer hasn’t hosted SNL yet. She’s already well-versed in comedy, theater, and singing (she’s a damn good jazz singer). Let her shine again on SNL.

Bob Odenkirk
He’ll have Better Call Saul to promote next year. There’s your reason to bring him back (not that he needs one).

Jenny Slate
Jenny Slate’s got a good thing going for her, after the cursing “controversy”: Obvious Child, voicing Marcel the Shell, her standup, her side stints in Married. SNL made a mistake by letting her go, and they should just suck it up and ask her back, if only for a night. Just imagine a real-life Marcel sketch? That’d be adorable.

Jason Sudeikis
Kill two birds with one stone: If Sudeikis hosts SNL, Olivia Wilde will HAVE to make an appearance, too.
