You know what’s great?

Not having scores of people die of smallpox, like, all the time.

Oh and also?

Not having to be awake during surgery. As much fun as it must’ve been back in the day getting blind-drunk before a major operation so as to dim at least some of the incandescent pain, modern anaesthesia is one hell of a thing.

What I’m trying to say is that sometimes it baffles me how lucky we are to be alive today—both in the sense of, ‘Holy shit, how did we even make it this far as a species’, and, ‘Goddamn am I glad I’m up and about these days, rather than a few hundred years ago.’ The advancement of technology and the insatiable march of progress have brought with them untold benefits to humanity. It’s also true, however, that they have brought with them a plethora of brand new, innovative annoyances. We’re gonna put aside the unbelievable modern fuckery that is the anti-vaxx movement, and have a look instead at a few others, as Reddit asks the question, ‘What new obnoxious traits are you noticing in society?’ I’ve combined that with another thread from a bit further back about annoyingly normalised features of modern society. You can check out both threads here, and here, but below are some highlights:
