The outbreak of COVID-19 around the world is having a whole galaxy of effects on the world, both on systems and individuals. In terms of individual action, hopefully you all are doing the best you can, cruel capitalism permitting, to practice social/physical distancing. during a pandemic of a scale so large which seems to rob us of our individual agency and can so easily make us feel powerless, social/physical distancing is one of those acts we can do to to help the fragile systems we have—staffed by overworked, underpaid heroes—cope with the crisis that is hitting us all. And if you think you might not be doing it enough—well, as long as you’re doing it more than these lot you’re probably alright:

Anyway while you are undertaking social/physical distancing it’s important to use whatever tactics you can to help you cope with the diminished amount of human contact that that necessarily entails. We are social animals after all. Well, most of us. It’s tough to see that part of our lives hit. So use whatever tactic you can. An easy one is: Watch a lot of sh*t! And, as an added bit of spice, play ‘movie trope bingo’. Have a shot of 90% absinthe each time you see one of those visual or storytelling shortcuts used that we all know and love. Here, here’s an AskReddit thread to help you along with remembering a few of these, as Reddit asks the question: ‘What are some moments in movies that make you go, ‘Uh, it doesn’t work that way.’ You can check out the full thread here, but below are some highlights:
