Reddit Asks the Question: 'What's Something That People Will Be Nostalgic For In Fifty Years'

One of my biggest weaknesses—and forgive me for going all job interview rhetoric on you—is long-term thinking. I’m a pretty decent planner and logical thinker when it comes to the short and medium term, but when it’s time to look further ahead something short circuits in my brain. I’ve been trying to get the bottom of why that is for quite a long time, but with no luck. Either way, that doesn’t really matter right now. The point is that when I try to envision anything past, like—five, maybe?—years in the future, a ferocious fog rushes in and clouds my mind’s eye.

Although I guess I should say here: That applies to personal stuff. Thinking about where my life is gonna be and things like that. I have serious trouble forecasting that. When it comes to things outside myself—macro things like political trends, world events, etc. etc.—then it becomes a whole different ball game. For some reason, I find that much easier. That stuff I can do. And it’s that kind of stuff that Reddit had on its mind the other day when it pondered the question: ‘What’s something that people will be nostalgic for in fifty years?’ You can check out the full thread here, but below are some highlights:
