The older you get the more you realise just how much nobody knows anything. Like, yes, obviously they accumulate knowledge and experience, and they cloak themselves in it and pretend to be doing things Just The Way They’re Meant To Be Done—but deep down you all know: That’s flimsy horseshit. It’s one of the most common shared realisations you have with your friends as you all age together: ‘Holy shit. Everyone’s just bluffing their way through this, huh? There are no real rules; no objective, righteous paths; just a bunch of tall children trying to do their best, day to day.’ You find this out bit by bit, as your friends and acquaintances flare out along the strands of life’s web and news of their exploits occasionally reverberates back, the gossip of everyone’s nonsense accumulating on the fibres like delicious spring morning dew.
