It’s funny how when you ask the question, ‘What do you miss from when you were young?’, just as often as getting an answer like, ‘The feeling of boundless freedom,’ or, ‘No responsibilities,’ you also get a list of products in return. A specific model of toy, a type of candy, an item on a fast food menu. It definitely happens to me when I’m reminiscing about my childhood. Memories of feelings and sensory experiences, all bound up and woven in with solid objects—frequently cheap, inconsequential fluff, churned out by slave condition factories halfway around the world, and yet somehow core to my deep emotional understanding of the world. Consumerism, what a trip!
