Reddit Asks the Question: 'Millennials, What Skill Did You Acquire In the '90s That You No Longer Use?'

Warning: Here be sweeping generalisations aplenty!

A point I keep seeing more and more on social media is that Millennials grew up in an interesting era when it came to technology—specifically that late ’90s/early ’00s period. Whereas during that time Boomers struggled to adopt rapidly evolving tech, and these days Gen Z—though fluent with technology—are used to engaging with its slick, developed interfaces, but aren’t that well-versed in tinkering with things under the hood, so to speak. Millennials grew up at a time when computers and similar technology were more readily customisable, their control panels more accessible. It was both easier and more necessary to learn how to dig around in your machine’s settings and advanced settings and file directories. Nowadays, most consumer technology comes packaged with that ‘It just works!’ philosophy, which obviously is massively in the interests of the companies that produce it because it also translates to, ‘Don’t even try fixing it when it breaks. Just buy a new one!’

That tinkering skill seems to be dying out, and it was the first thing I thought of when I saw an AskReddit thread the other day that asked the question: ‘Millennials, what skill did you acquire in the ’90s that you no longer use?’ You can check out the full thread here, but below are some highlights:
