I don’t need to repeat here in depth what I think of Donald Trump. A reactionary, far-right white nationalist demagogue who, in many ways, nevertheless served as a useful mirror held up against the American empire, its ugliness and its bloodlust, its venality and greed, reflected in his beady little black eyes. I’m no fan of Joe Biden—in fact I detest the man’s politics—but that doesn’t change the fact that I am glad that Trump is gone. The conditions that led to Trump—the massive inequality, the anger and the rampant racism, the unchecked neoliberalism—haven’t gone anywhere, and they threaten the rise of a figure even worse, but it’s still nice to not have to deal with him every day. The thought of Trump returning was on Reddit’s mind the other day, albeit in a much funnier way than that which would usually be implied by the idea, when it asked the question: ‘If we could set up a Truman Show scenario where Trump thinks he’s President again and the public send in scenarios for him to deal with, what would you suggest?’ You can check out the full thread here, but below are some highlights:
