Why Am I Not Surprised?

Welcome to a new potentially regular feature here at Pajiba that we like to call, “Why Am I Not Surprised?” First up, why is QAnon so obsessed with pedophilia? The Pizzagate scandal, Wayfair, their obsession with Jeffrey Epstein, and their latest fixation with Netflix’s Cuties? It’s a little creepy, to be honest. As we have seen with many people involved in this collective delusion, they spend an inordinate amount of time “researching” child sex trafficking, including searches that feature “children who are being raped and tortured.”

With that in mind, why am I not surprised by this?

Moving on, the head of the CDC, Robert Redfield, told a Senate panel today that he expects that a vaccine should be available by the end of the year, but only in a limited supply, and that it won’t be until the end of the second quarter or beginning of the third quarter of 2021 before everyone is properly immunized. He also says that, at this point, a face mask protects us from infection as well as a vaccine.

Related: I have written a few times about a wedding here in Maine. Half the guests were infected, and in the weeks since, there have been 170 infections linked to that wedding and an entire county in Maine that is completely f**ked with the virus now. As of yesterday, there have also been seven deaths linked to the wedding, and not a single one of the people who died actually attended the wedding. Why am I not surprised that no one at that wedding wore a face mask? A few hours of very minor discomfort could have saved 7 lives, prevented 170 infections, and saved an untold amount of money linked to several outbreaks that are all associated with that one single wedding.

Finally, did you hear about the world-renowned Texas doctor, Dr. Andrea Natale, whose daughter and her boyfriend were violently attacked by BLM protestors? Terrible story. The worst part is, according to Natale’s tweets, his daughter “filmed it & called the police but they cannot do anything [because] they are African American.”

“Is this the America we want?” he asked.

No sir, it is not! So, why am I not surprised that the doctor … completely made it up? It was, in fact, a couple of “squeegee kids,” young Black men who were washing their car at an intersection, and who did not physically touch anyone but had only damaged a mirror. After deleting his Twitter account, he said through a representative, “I was worried about my daughter, and I jumped to a conclusion based on the information I had at the time.” Why am I not surprised that, like the police, he jumped to a conclusion based on the color of their skin?
