We See You, Mike Pence, and We Know Exactly What's Up
Here’s the lead from the latest development in the Trump administration, from NBC:
Vice President Mike Pence has been kept in the dark about former National Security Adviser Mike Flynn’s alleged wrongdoing, according to a source close to the administration, who cited a potential “pattern” of not informing the vice president and calling it “malpractice or intentional, and either are unacceptable.”
The source close to the administration, who requested anonymity as the White House denies the story, is now saying that Pence and his team were not made aware of any investigation relating to Flynn’s work as a foreign agent for Turkey.
“It’s also a fact that if he told McGahn that during the transition, it’s also a fact that not only was Pence not made aware of that, no one around Pence was as well,” the source said. “And that’s an egregious error — and it has to be intentional. It’s either malpractice or intentional, and either are unacceptable.”
This source goes on to say that VP Pence does not blame Donald Trump for not keeping the Vice President “in the loop” on matters related to Michael Flynn, saying that Trump probably assumed Pence knew, when he didn’t.
In other words, there were two instances in which the Trump Administration and White House Counsel Don McGahn were made aware of Michael Flynn criminal wrongdoings, but that Pence — head of Trump’s transition and the Vice President of the United States — was kept from this information, some of which had been rumored in the media.
So, Mike Pence is either really dumb or playing really dumb and scapegoating Don McGahn. Either way, Pence is clearly letting the media know — through a source — that he’s all set to become the 46th President of the United States after Donald Trump is impeached, i.e., he’s throwing his boss under the bus.
Now, Donald Trump is not a very smart man, but he’s smart enough to know — or he has people who are smart enough to tell him — that VP Pence is angling for his job. Donny Trash isn’t gonna be happy about that. It could create some interesting drama. Does Trump let it go? Or does he take Pence down with him? I can’t imagine Trump is not going to take personal any headlines along the lines of, “Vice President Distances Himself from Donald Trump,” because if Donald Trump has a bomb strapped to his chest, he’s going to want to be in a room with as many people as possible.
