Virginia continues to be a mess. Ralph Northam continues to refuse to resign, and I suspect that’s the way it will stay. Ironically, the fact that there are others who wore blackface in their pasts probably helped take the heat off of Northam. However, his whole “There’s no better person to [heal Virginia] than a doctor,” is a huge crock of shit. He’s not suturing Virginia. He’s not performing surgery on Virginia. A better analogy would be, “There’s no better person to heal Virginia than an ignorant, racist white man trying to save his ass by actually learning and implementing policies designed to help save my ass because the alternative may be an ignorant, racist white Republican with no incentive to learn or improve to save his ass.”
Dude also stepped in it again this morning by confusing slavery for indentured servitude on CBS: “We are now at the 400-year anniversary — just 90 miles from here in 1619, the first indentured servants from Africa landed on our shores in Old Point Comfort, what we call now Fort Monroe … ” He had to be corrected by Gayle King, who reminded him that it was not indentured servitude, but slavery. In Northam’s defense, education where it concerns race is not exactly stellar in the South. To my recollection, we mostly skipped over slavery and jumped straight to the Civil War, where we learned that “it wasn’t really about slavery,” while the Civil Rights era was usually saved for the end of the school year, if there was any time left over after World War II, which is to say, we covered it over the last week after exams were done and students were already checked out for the summer.
The situation with the Lt. Governor is not any better. A second accuser has come forward, alleging that Justin Fairfax raped her while they were students at Duke University. Over the weekend, there was talk of bringing articles of impeachment against Fairfax, but the state legislature has reportedly backed off of that this morning, for fear of Virginia Democrats looking even more racist for impeaching the Black Lt. Governor for sexual assault but not the White Governor for blackface. This is not a particularly good look, either, because now they’re giving an accused rapist a free pass so as not to appear more racist than they already are. If there was ever more proof that a three-party system were needed, it’s in Virginia, where there has to be a lot of voters thinking, “None of the above” right now.
If blackface and sexual assault weren’t bad enough, the President of the United States is also cracking jokes about Native American genocide, referring to the Trail of Tears in a tweet about Elizabeth Warren.
Today Elizabeth Warren, sometimes referred to by me as Pocahontas, joined the race for President. Will she run as our first Native American presidential candidate, or has she decided that after 32 years, this is not playing so well anymore? See you on the campaign TRAIL, Liz!

It’s days like these when I wish we had a “go f*ck yourself” font with which to write entire posts. If that wasn’t awful enough, for some reason, Rob Lowe decided to join the fray, too, with a now-deleted tweet.
What the hell is wrong with these people that they think they can so casually make jokes at the expense of Native Americans, and the mass murder of Native Americans?
The President also continues to mistake weather for climate.
”Well, it happened again. Amy Klobuchar announced that she is running for President, talking proudly of fighting global warming while standing in a virtual blizzard of snow, ice and freezing temperatures. Bad timing. By the end of her speech she looked like a Snowman(woman)!

Also, since Axios released Trump’s public schedule revealing that he spends over 60 percent of his day engaging in “Executive Time” (watching TV and tweeting), Trump has gotten spectacularly defensive about how little he works.
The media was able to get my work schedule, something very easy to do, but it should have been reported as a positive, not negative. When the term Executive Time is used, I am generally working, not relaxing. In fact, I probably work more hours than almost any past President…..

No president ever worked harder than me (cleaning up the mess I inherited)!

And this is a pretty accurate reflection of the Trump Presidency.
“Fact checkers have become Fake News.” @JesseBWatters So True!
