As I’m writing this, it’s barely 9 a.m. on the East coast and already there are reports that Robert De Niro and former Vice President Joe Biden may have been targeted by the Twitter-dubbed #MAGABomber due to the straight-as-shit line from Donald Trump’s violent rhetoric towards his political opponents to those very same opponents receiving goddamn bombs in the mail. However, that grim reality requires self-reflection on the part of the president’s supporters, and we all know where they stand on that.

fuck-your-feelings.jpg

Which brings us to a Trump rally in Wisconsin last night where chants of “Lock her up!” filled the air on the very same day that Hillary Clinton was targeted by a mail bomb. However, it’s very easy to ignore the connection between the words flying out of your MAGA-hole and acts of terror when you’ve already convinced yourself that the Democrats and CNN are obviously working in cahoots and bombing themselves. And if you’re wondering who the hell actually thinks like that, 95% of the commenters on local news stories because Facebook is a Death Star of dumb in America’s pocket.

Go ahead, dive in. I dare you.

What’s particularly amazing is that Trump was actually subdued in Wisconsin despite the crowd’s thirst for blood. In a surprising display of self-awareness, he somehow possessed the restraint to stick to a teleprompter that was clearly forged out of a unicorn because it made him say the words “stop treating political opponents as being morally defective” out loud. Someone was being a big boy, and naturally, he wanted everyone to know it.

Via The Cut:

When Trump did stray from the teleprompter, he spoke about the trade war and the border wall, but limited his scope, relatively speaking — he didn’t call Elizabeth Warren “Pocahontas” or declare himself a nationalist, like he did on Monday. “Do you see how nice I’m behaving today?” he asked at one point.

Of course, Trump’s behavior compared to his supporters’ highlights the most terrifying aspect of his presidency: They are way worse than he is, and they’ll still be around long after he’s gone. Don’t get me wrong. Trump is awful, and a goddamn blight on this country. But at least he has the wherewithal to (minimally) acknowledge that okay, yeah, these bombs are a legitimate problem that are happening in real life, and he should probably tone down his rhetoric for a hot minute.

But only a minute! And then it’s back to demonizing the media and stoking racial fears less than 24 hours later, because white people will never believe domestic terrorism is real let alone a persistent threat. You just file that shit under “False Flag,” and boom, like it never even happened.

So much winning.
