After a five-year investigation and a plea deal that fell apart at the last minute, special counsel David Weiss — a Trump appointee — has indicted Hunter Biden on three gun charges. The charges are very dumb.

Hunter Biden has been charged with filing a form claiming he was not using drugs when he purchased a gun in 2018 and using a narcotic while owning a gun. Hunter Biden was a drug user in 2018.

How many people are actually charged under these laws? Very, very few (we are a gun-loving country, in case you haven’t heard). But Hunter Biden is the son of the President of the United States. He’s special, nevermind that a federal appeals court has ruled that it is unconstitutional to bar drug users from owning guns in a case that was influenced by a recent Supreme Court decision.

It’s grasping at straws, and even still, the Republicans in Congress will somehow argue that Hunter is getting special treatment because he is not being executed by a firing squad for violating a law that almost every Republican in America does not believe in. If Democrats had brought this same indictment against a Trump kid, I would laugh at how sweaty and desperate it made them look. A few months ago, Hunter Biden was basically going to get a few hours of community service for the same “crime.”

It’s a joke, but I’m sure that Fox News will have a field day over it. The irony is that Republicans rooting for Hunter Biden’s prosecution will be rooting against the Second Amendment. That seems like something Joe Biden may be able to use in his 2024 campaign.
