There’s a well-known quote from Mr. Rogers that always circulates when something really bad happens in this country.
“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping’… Because if you look for the helpers, you’ll know that there’s hope.”
Helpers give us hope— and one of the helpers in this country is Civil Rights Leader and Georgia Congressman John Lewis. His Twitter feed is a bright spot on the internet and is where I visit when I feel like things are becoming truly hopeless. His words are kind, inspiring, and a reminder that eventually good prevails. That hope is never, truly lost—but you have to be willing to get into some #GoodTrouble to make the change you want happen.
In case you’re looking for a helper today, here’s a few of his posts to lift you up, so that you can face tomorrow and get into some #GoodTrouble.
I have been beaten, my skull fractured, and arrested more than forty times so that each and every person has the right to register and vote. Friends of my gave their lives. Do your part. Get out there and vote like you’ve never voted before. #vote #goodtrouble

It's hard not to see parallels to the Civil Rights Movement when reporters were threatened, beaten, & attacked for attempting to shine a light on injustices perpetrated in the Deep South. The administration’s weak & feeble response demonstrates whose side they really fight for.

You've got to love everybody. As Dr. King used to say, you've got to love the hell out of them. #goodtrouble

57 years ago today I was released from Mississippi State Penitentiary, better known as Parchman, after being arrested in the Jackson, MS bus station for using a so-called "white" restroom during the Freedom Rides. #goodtrouble pic.twitter.com/KQxrb3oRxa

The time is always right to do right. Find a way to get in the way and we will make a way out of no way. #goodtrouble

To the young people speaking up and speaking out today, my heart is with you. Keep walking and keep marching all the way to the polls in November. You will change America. #NationalSchoolWalkout

Finally:
Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble. #goodtrouble

Thank You Rep. Lewis. Now let’s all go get into some #GoodTrouble.
