Surely Donald Trump's Announcement Of Sexual Assault Awareness Month Is An April Fool's Joke

Credit where it’s due: I might disagree with Donald Trump and every single person in his current presidential administration on almost every level, and I may think they’re all completely incompetent at best and downright nefarious at worst. But he sure did play a pretty good goof on all of us today when he released a proclamation that April is officially National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month! What a clever early April Fool’s Day joke!

“My Administration, including the Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Human Services, will do everything in its power to protect women, children, and men from sexual violence,” the statement reads. “This includes supporting victims, preventing future abuse, and prosecuting offenders to the full extent of the law.”

Ohohoho, what a funny joke coming from a man who was caught on tape talking about how he enjoys grabbing women “by the pussy,” and who’s had no less than twelve women come forward with sexual assault accusations against him specifically, including a child rape case! Remember when he said that all of those women were falsely-accusing him for attention and that none of them were pretty enough for him to assault in the first place? What a fun jest this all is, to pretend that he cares about supporting victims and prosecuting offenders!

It gets better! He also says in a statement that he has “directed the Attorney General to create a task force on crime reduction and public safety. This task force will develop strategies to reduce crime and propose new legislation to fill gaps in existing laws.”

Fun fact: the Attorney General is Jeff Session, who was once was asked about the idea that Trump might be forcibly grabbing women’s genitals and said he would not classify such an act as sexual assault. HILARIOUS!

Oh boy, here’s another one! “Our families, schools, and communities must encourage respect for women and children, who are the vast majority of victims, and promote healthy personal relationships.”

Does allowing someone to call your daughter a piece of ass and telling people you’d date her if she wasn’t your daughter a healthy relationship? I suppose so!

The final kicker, from, remember, a man who admitted out loud to another man that he just starts kissing women without waiting for them to object, because he’s a celebrity and can get away with pushing beyond the boundaries of what is appropriate: “In the face of sexual violence, we must commit to providing meaningful support and services for victims and survivors in the United States and around the world.”

April Fool’s, I guess!
