The Numbers: A Fox News poll revealed yesterday that voters trust Joe Biden to do a better job than the President on health care by 17 points, coronavirus by 9, and relations with China by 6. In a head-to-head matchup between Biden and Trump, the Fox News poll shows Biden with a healthy eight-point advantage, 48 to 40.

What Does It Mean: It’s not even June yet, so polls don’t mean a lot right now. Hillary Clinton also had a healthy and sizable lead over Donald Trump, but she lost the election even while winning more than 3 million more votes. If Biden wants to avoid a similar fate, he needs to shore up his support among black people, progressives, and swing-state voters. Amy Klobuchar is not the answer.

Yeah, But: While the Fox News personalities like Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, and Laura Ingraham continue to go to bat for the President, the network itself is sometimes caught between the facts and the conspiracy theories supported by the President. However, Fox News coverage of the coronavirus has decreased by 40 percent in the last month, so overall, it obviously still leans hard toward the President. Nevertheless, there is talk again of Trump starting a Trump News Network if he loses, and there is some suggestion that he is trying to undermine Fox News so that he can elevate OANN, a network whose own CEO frequently promotes banana pants pro-Trump conspiracy theories.

Trump has stepped up his attacks on Fox News, of late, including yesterday, when he took aim at some of the contributors on the network with whom he does not agree.

These tweets arrived before the poll results were shared on Fox News, although the tweets are consistent with an increasing number of attacks on the network by its favored son. After the Fox News poll, Trump promoted polling that showed him with a small lead in critical swing states, where he leads with Independents, most of whom nevertheless would blame Trump if there is a second wave of virus this fall.

But seriously: Why do people keep talking about a second wave like we’ve already conquered the first wave? There were 28,000 new cases and 1,400 deaths yesterday. There are still 275,000 active cases in New York alone.
