Report: A Smoking Gun in Trump/Russia Investigation Exists

When, if ever, we will see this smoking gun remains to be seen, but according to The Guardian (via Slate), such a smoking gun does exist in the investigation between the Trump campaign and Russia’s hacking into the DNC and John Podesta’s email. If revealed, it purportedly would provide grounds for the impeachment of Donald Trump.

Unfortunately, we don’t know what that smoking gun is. We only have this to go on, from The Guardian:

One source suggested the official investigation was making progress. “They now have specific concrete and corroborative evidence of collusion,” the source said. “This is between people in the Trump campaign and agents of [Russian] influence relating to the use of hacked material.”

Right now, the major figures involved in the scandal are Michael Flynn, Carter Page, and Paul Manafort. Former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn was fired for contacts with Russia and has offered his testimony to Congress and the DOJ in exchange for immunity, a deal that neither body has taken Flynn up on, potentially because they don’t need it because they have enough evidence.

Meanwhile, the noose around Manafort’s neck continues to tighten. Yesterday, it was reported that he is registering as a foreign agent because of work he did for a pro-Russian political party in the Ukraine. It was also revealed that he received $20 million in loans from Trump associates on the day that he resigned as chairman of the Trump campaign. Manafort put that money into a shell company.

Meanwhile, we know that FISA warrants were granted to investigate Trump foreign advisor Carter Page based on intelligence that suggested he was a Russian agent. Page also cannot say for certain that he didn’t talk to Russian officials about easing sanctions.

We also know that there are some ties between Carter Page and Jeff Sessions. There are also numerous red flags surrounding Jared Kushner and his contacts/dealing with Russia.

As the revelation of a smoking gun draws closer, however, President Trump has begun to signal soured relations between the United States and Russia, although some believe it’s all political cover.

Not for nothing, but in February, one senior intelligence officer did suggest that Donald Trump would “die in jail” based on what he knew. We may soon discover what that is.
