After taking a pummeling from Americans sick with grief over pictures and sounds from children being separated from their families at the border, President Trump has announced that he will sign an executive order ending the practice, as soon as today.
You know, that thing that he said that he couldn’t do? That thing that he said only Democrats and Congress could do?
Trump will, of course, position himself as a hero for ending a practice that he started. It’s a bit like an arsonist expecting to be celebrated for putting out a house fire that he set.
In doing so, he’s also throwing Republican colleagues under the bus, many of whom have also argued over the last several days that ending family separations is something that only Congress can accomplish. He’s also canceling a picnic with fellow Republicans scheduled for tomorrow because REASONS.
Trump, who held a fundraiser last night and is holding a campaign rally tonight, says tomorrow's congressional picnic "doesn't feel right" because "we're doing something so important."
