Do you know how hard it is for New Yorkers to agree on things?! The place is a melting pot of cultures, races, religions, wealth, poverty, and tech bros. You can find any kind of person in New York City. It’s not just the tourists, either. NYC residents are a veritable grab bag of humanity. So, it’s hard to get everyone to agree on things.

There are exceptions, of course. Few New Yorkers will tell you the subway system is up to snuff. Every New York resident who doesn’t own a second home in Florida will tell you that Connecticut pizza is mid (plus, you have to go to Connecticut to eat it). They’ve all gathered together to mud-stomp beautiful little bugs that threaten our crops (or something). New Yorkers can align, especially when it comes to their mayors.

Being Mayor of New York is a thankless job. Still, some narcissist always comes along and says, “They’re going to love me.” Rudy Giuliani was Mayor during one of the worst days in New York’s history and managed to present a steady hand (at first). He f***ed up plenty but still had a chance to ride that for the rest of his life. That has gone… poorly. Michael Bloomberg boasted about a police program called Stop And Frisk that saw Black and brown minorities consistently harassed. Bill De Blasio spent a chunk of his last term running for President, but it’s eating pizza with a knife and fork that did him in.

Still, few have failed as spectacularly as the current Mayor and Forever Cop, Eric Adams. Adams has been so unpopular with New Yorkers that it’s shocking he was elected in the first place. But that’s what happens when you run on fear during one of the most uncertain times in our country’s history. Adams has spent his time in office lifting cops, shaming migrants and the unhoused, and cutting money from schools and libraries. He’s also (allegedly) been taking bribes like it’s going out of style.

Those (alleged) bribes have finally resulted in consequences. Adams was indicted, but insisted he did nothing wrong. It’s a pretty funny stance to take, given that he (allegedly) committed those crimes with ineptitude usually reserved for Looney Tunes mobsters. The man was so (allegedly) blatant in his corruption that Sabrina Carpenter was able to brag about helping bust him. It’s insane, and New Yorkers are over it.

A new Marist Poll revealed that 69% of New Yorkers want Adams to resign. That damning majority includes 71% of Democrats. Additionally, 80% of residents think he should not run again. This is incredible news, not only for the city of New York but as a repudiation of the unserious people who once claimed Adams was the future of the Democratic party.

Seriously, pundits and journalists once touted Adams as an eventual leader for Democrats. The idea was that we needed someone less Left and more left-of-center. That left us with an egomaniacal blowhard who dressed like a Batman villain and committed crimes like one too (allegedly). I hope those people feel f***ing stupid as they hop in their planes to spend the next few months at their Kissimmee beach houses.
