We now enter the second week of, uh, what are we calling this? Trump-doesn’t-know-how-to-speak-to-humans-gate? As a reminder to everyone: Donald Trump started this. That’s an assumption we can make without even knowing anything else about the controversy, but the fact that Donald Trump (and his son) are stooping to personal insults is a pretty good tip off that they’re not exactly on the right side of this argument:
Wacky Congresswoman Wilson is the gift that keeps on giving for the Republican Party, a disaster for Dems. You watch her in action & vote R!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 22, 2017
Snap into it!!! 😂🙄😂 https://t.co/1XjHx24Q4C— Donald Trump Jr. (@DonaldJTrumpJr) October 21, 2017
Whats w bedazzled red cowboy hat Maxine Watters is wearing criticizing T party? Easier 2 take u seriously when u dont look like a stripper;)— Donald Trump Jr. (@DonaldJTrumpJr) August 24, 2011
This morning, Myeshia Johnson — the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson — appeared on Good Morning America to back up all of Rep. Wilson’s claims.

She was upset, she said. “It made me cry even worse.” She said that her husband died a hero, but that she has no idea how she died, and — because she wasn’t allowed to look inside the casket — isn’t even sure it’s her husband inside. She also said that Trump struggled to remember her husband’s name, which Trump is already disputing on Twitter.
I had a very respectful conversation with the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson, and spoke his name from beginning, without hesitation!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 23, 2017
And the inevitable place this was going all week, president arguing with a grieving widow in real time on Twitter with exclamation points https://t.co/xvr5wEiUyh— Benjy Sarlin (@BenjySarlin) October 23, 2017
You’re arguing with a Gold Star widow, Donny. Just shut the fuck up. Just say, “I’m sorry,” and move on. How hard is that for you? Why must you debate with a grieving widow? Even if you were in the right — and you absolutely are not — you let it go. Listen to Martha on this, Donny:
Raddatz: People say "how difficult these calls are to make. Perhaps there should be more emphasis on how difficult they are to receive." pic.twitter.com/xUiznvgwNk— Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) October 22, 2017
This is not a fight you want to have, and knowing Trump, he will invariably resort to personal insults. By day’s end, he’ll probably end up saying something terrible about Myeshia Johnson. God knows his supporters already are, after that Tweet basically had the effect of siccing his supporters on her:
Wow! I had no idea how uneducated Myeshia Johnson was untill I saw her interview.— keith silver (@keith_silver) October 23, 2017
I Blame MSM Because they make Myeshia johnson (It Not Her Fault) lie about Donald Trump phone call— 🇺🇸ProTrump🇺🇸 (@protrumpnow) October 23, 2017
I would, however, note that tweets in support of Myeshia Johnson outnumber tweets criticizing her at about a 20-1 ratio.
Dear Myeshia Johnson,— Eugene Gu, MD (@eugenegu) October 23, 2017
We all remember your heroic husband's name, Sgt. La David T. Johnson, even if Trump doesn't.
Meanwhile, the White House knew when Trump said that he’d reached out to all the Gold Star families that it was a lie, and Trump’s staff spent last week scrambling to send condolence letters overnight to family members.
They're next-day UPS-ing condolence letters. This is embarrassing, even for this White House. https://t.co/Z9dpt1GO8l— Joy Reid (@JoyAnnReid) October 22, 2017
Finally, speaking of military service, John McCain would like to remind everyone not-so-subtly that Trump was basically a draft dodger:
Watch. John McCain seems to take a dig at Trump for draft dodging. pic.twitter.com/RVtAtDFHeY— Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) October 23, 2017
