Late Last Night, Lady Gaga and, Fittingly, Jon Bon Jovi Sang 'Living on a Prayer' for Hillary

I don’t know if Hillary Clinton will ultimately be able to heal the wounds that have opened up in this country over the last 18 months. There are racial and gender divides as long as the Mississippi River, and if President Obama couldn’t heal them, then I don’t know who can.

But I do know this: Hillary Clinton managed to bring rock and pop, young and old, strange and straight-laced together late last night (well after the first votes were counted in Dixville Notch, NH) in Raleigh, North Carolina for a duet of “Living on a Prayer,” which about sums up election day for me. “We gotta hold on to what we got,” and by that, we mean the Obama Administration, and a third-term extension through Hillary. “Take my hand, and we’ll make it, I swear.”

Reminder for our Gen-X brethren that Jon Bon Jovi is an amazing human being: He bootstrapped his way to success; he doesn’t drink; he doesn’t do drugs; he’s been married to his high-school sweetheart for over 30 years; he’s an ambassador for Habitat for Humanity who has spent millions building homes; he started a restaurant where people pay what they can, and in which all the proceeds go to homelessness;, and his simple, sentimental, cliched-ridden but catchy pop-rock got a lot of blue-collar Democrats through some rough years in the 1980s.

He’s also the perfect guy to join Hillary at her last rally. His band’s album, “Keep the Faith,” was released on November 3rd, 1992, the day that Hillary’s husband won his first election.

Good luck today, everyone, and no matter what happens, we’ll be here for you tomorrow. It doesn’t make a difference if we make it or not, we got each other, and that’s a lot (or “that’s hot snot,” if you’re 13).
