Senior advisor to Donald Trump, Kellyanne Conway — who helped orchestrate Trump’s 2016 victory — is resigning from her position with a little more than two months to go until the election. She’s leaving effective at the end of the month. Her husband, George Conway, is also stepping away from the Lincoln Project and taking a Twitter hiatus. Both cite family reasons for their decisions.

“We disagree about plenty,” Kellyanne Conway wrote of herself and her husband, “but we are united on what matters most: the kids. Our four children are teens and ‘tweens starting a new academic year in the middle school and high school that will be conducted remotely from home for at least a few months. As millions of parents nationwide know, kids ‘doing school from home’ requires a level of attention and vigilance that is as unusual as these times.”

Conway, as she so often does, appears to be downplaying the real issue here, which is her and George Conway’s 15-year-old daughter, Claudia Conway, who has been bad-mouthing her parents and the Trump administration for months on social media. Over the weekend, Claudia — who is 15 — tweeted about seeking “emancipation” from her parents, saying that “this is probably going to be public one way or another.” She cited not her mother’s job, but “years of childhood trauma and abuse.” She’s taking a break from social media herself, but before doing so, she claimed that her mother’s job was “ruining her life,” and that Kellyanne was “selfish” and that it was “all about money and fame.” Claudia, who has expressed support for Black Lives Matter and other progressive issues on social media, also stated that she didn’t agree with her father, George Conway, about anything, except that they both “have sense when it comes to the current President.”

(In a truly bizarre twist, former Presidential candidate Marianne Williamson was in Claudia’s mentions telling her to listen to her mother.)

After the Conways quit their job, Claudia both took credit for it — saying that she was the reason why — but then claimed that they were only quitting their jobs for the attention, again citing physical abuse from George and emotional abuse from Kellyanne, repeating her intention to seek emancipation from her parents.

Kellyanne Conway is still scheduled to speak at the RNC on Wednesday.
