The tea leaves here are not difficult to put together.

Yesterday, John McEntee — President Trump’s longtime personal assistant — was fired by the White House. He was escorted from the building. He was not allowed to collect his personal belongings. He apparently was not even allowed to put on his jacket.

This morning, Donald Trump rehired John McEntee to the Trump 2020 campaign.

“As we build out our operations for the 2018 midterm elections and the 2020 reelection campaign, we are pleased to welcome back two outstanding members of our 2016 team,” Brad Parscale said in a statement. “We need the help of proven leaders such as Katrina and John to promote the President’s growing portfolio of achievements across the country.”

We also learned that he was fired because he could not gain security clearance because he is under investigation for “serious financial crimes” by the Department of Homeland Security.

So, why would Donald Trump rehire a guy under investigation for serious financial crimes?

Because John McEntee was Trump’s personal bodyguard. Because McEntee was with him all of the time. Because McEntee probably knows stuff, and Trump didn’t want to throw a guy like that under the bus. Because that’s a guy Trump doesn’t want to alienate.
