Joe Biden Is Amused By Republicans Who Think Repealing The ACA Will Actually Be Successful

Joe Biden, vice president/everyone’s fun, prankster uncle (if you buy into the viral and very, very real Biden/Obama Twitter memes), is known for his good humor, and a Tuesday interview with CNN revealed nothing makes him laugh more than Republicans who actually, genuinely believe repealing the ACA won’t blow up in their faces. LOL!

When asked by the lovely Jake Tapper about Republicans’ plans to dismantle Obamacare as Congress enters its 115th session, at first appearing to struggle to hold back laughter, Biden responded: “Go ahead, repeal it. Repeal it now. See what happens. The idea that all of a sudden they can go back and start charging women more than men, pre-existing conditions don’t matter.”

“I love these guys,” he said, and in a seamless imitation of Republican congressmen/women while pounding his fists, added, “‘We ran against the Affordable Care Act, how terrible it is, how premiums went up, we’re going to repeal it!’”

He continued: “We [President Obama and other Democrats] knew we had to improve the Affordable Care Act, knew from the beginning — we were looking for a partner,” before referencing Social Security as an example of a government program that was built upon and improved through bipartisan efforts.

And indeed, while senate Republicans this week unveiled a plan to dismantle Obamacare that the nerds over at Vox claim “Democrats can’t stop” and, really, there’s nothing at all humorous about the toll repealing Obamacare will disproportionately have on women, communities of color, and America’s poorest and sickest, it is at least, like, kind of funny to think there actually exist human beings removed from reality enough to believe they’ll be able to get away with this without any consequences.

Over the years, according to one New York Times study published earlier this year, the ACA has substantially improved the nation’s overall standard of living, while improving public health and helping to reduce poverty, and the end of the ACA really is no laughing matter. But to good ol’ Uncle Joe, the idiots trying to pull this off with virtually no idea what to replace it with are, so here’s to hoping laughter really is the best medicine, as the old adage goes.
