In a brief item from yesterday that wouldn’t even be news if we didn’t live in a country of Puritanical Pams, Joe Biden caught flack for referring to Fox News’s White House correspondent, Peter Doocy, as a “stupid son of a bitch” over a hot mic. Doocy called out a question as the reporters were led away from the East Room. “Do you think inflation is a political liability in the midterms?” Biden replied “It’s a great asset. More inflation. What a stupid son of a bitch.” He was clearly being sarcastic and speaking to himself, but the mic was still on and it was broadcast.
I mean… Isn’t he? Isn’t every White House press conference 45 minutes of Jen Psaki verbally abusing Doocy until he’s quarantined in the Burn Unit? It sure seems that way.
Needless to say the usual suspects went into a tailspin, with The New York Times breathlessly reporting “Biden Uses a Vulgarity to Insult a Fox News Reporter” and the Independent saying he “lashed out” after a “pointed question.” Note to journalists: that wasn’t a pointed question, and it’s not “lashing out” to call someone a stupid son of a bitch under your breath. That is the opposite of lashing out. Admittedly it’s the sort of thing one should wait until they’re in a different room to say aloud, but that’s it.
Twitter had a field day, of course.
Biden rarely drops curses, but when he does it's a Doocy.

fox news' peter doocy asked biden a "when will you stop beating your wife" style question and the president treated it with the contempt it deserved, as my late grandfather would say https://t.co/qJMIOwu42P

Look…before we go down an endless cycle of pearl clutching and calls for civility, can we just be honest that everyone wins here? Biden gets to vent. Democrats get to laugh. Doocy gets endless amounts of air time playing the victim. No one apologize. Just laugh and move on.

McCain had the exact same reaction to Peter Doocy as Biden.

There’s your bipartisanship. https://t.co/V8nxHyMNAC
To give the stupid son of a bitch credit, he handled it well. President Biden called him later to apologize and he accepted it, saying the President could call him anything he liked.

Personally, I find myself on the same page as David Mack of Buzzfeed.
american tv shows will show topless women getting brutally murdered and then beep them when they say the f word as they get stabbed

It’s 2022. “Son of a bitch’ barely qualifies as an insult these days. There’s no need to defend a reporter from the #1 news site among the “f—k your feelings” crowd, and the faux outrage is nothing but a waste of energy.
