Jeb Bush Failed Hard When Asked About Marvel Superheroes

When presidential wannabes aren’t talking policy or fighting to steal some screen time from the black hole of attention that is Donald Trump, they’re trying desperately to get you to like them as people. And in an age where Marvel dominates the pop culture conversation, it was only a matter of time before politics collided with the MCU. (I mean, aside from Mark Ruffalo’s ardent love of Bernie Sanders.) You’d think a campaign manager worth their flag pin would have prepped their candidate for a question as easy as “Who’s your favorite Marvel superhero?”

But rather than picking the guy who’s name is all about patriotism, poor awkward Jeb Bush blathered out a string of answers. Each worse than the last. “I like watching the movies,” Bush began. “I wish I owned Marvel, as someone that believes in capitalism.”

But that attempt at wit didn’t answer the question, so Bush tried again. “I don’t know, I’m kinda old school,” he said. “I like the old school guys like Batman, a little dark these days.”

But Bush didn’t stop by confusing his Marvel and DC heroes. He then double-downed with some sexism, old-school style, saying, “I saw that Supergirl is on TV.” (Okay, she’s DC too, but go on.) “She looked pretty hot. I don’t know which channel it’s on, but I’m looking forward to that.”
