Earlier today, Donald Trump hired Brad Pascale to be his campaign manager for the 2020 election, which Donald Trump actually thinks he’s going to win (he announced his candidacy for 2020 on Inauguration Day). Pascale ran the digital operation for the 2016 campaign and was paid handsomely for it ($93 million), despite having a lot of assistance from Facebook and Russian bots.

Anyway, Jared Kushner is a big fan of Pascale, and after the hire, Kushner released a statement from an “Assistant to the President.”

“Brad was essential in bringing a disciplined and data-driven approach to how the 2016 campaign was run. His leadership and expertise will be help build a best-in-class campaign.”

“Will be help build,” makes no sense, but no matter: Executive branch officials are not allowed to influence or discuss campaigns in their official capacities without violating the Hatch Act.

Also, I believe this is the fourth violation of the Hatch Act (at least) by a White House employee (Kellyanne, Scavino, and Nikki Haley have all violated it in the past). Nothing really happens, except maybe they get a permanent mark on their record, which the White House will probably shred anyway.

But, in news that actually does matter, Kushner’s security clearance has been officially downgraded. In fact, everyone who was working with interim security clearances had those downgraded, per John Kelly. The White House insists, however, that it won’t affect Kushner’s job. Also, The Onion was pretty on point with this four hours before the announcement:

Anyone else always see Slender Man in Kushner? Because I do.
