Intelligence Agencies Continue Zeroing in on Trump-Russia Ties

According to a news report by McClatchyDC (via the NYTimes’ Maggie Halberman), U.S. Intelligence agencies have been investigating a potential covert operation by the Russians to help influence the U.S. election.

One of the allegations involves whether a system for routinely paying thousands of Russian-American pensioners may have been used to pay some email hackers in the United States or to supply money to intermediaries who would then pay the hackers, the two sources said.

The FBI, the CIA, the National Security Agency, the Justice Department, the Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network have been investigating jointly. Essentially, the investigation is designed to find out who financed the email hacks of the DNC and John Podesta.

One source of the information leading to the investigation was Christopher Steele, the former British intelligence official who helped bring down FIFA head Sepp Blatter and compiled the salacious dossier Buzzfeed released last week. This report seems to lend even more credibility to Steele, which in turn gives more credibility to the raw intelligence used to compile the dossier.

Make of that what you will, but it’s hard not to connect the dots and conclude there was collusion between Trump and Putin, and that Trump did commit treason.

It is unclear how or if the investigation will continue once Donald Trump is sworn in on Friday.
