Update: Elizabeth Warren calls upon William Barr to resign or face impeachment.

In 2016, Bill Clinton — the husband of a candidate running for President, Hillary Clinton — met with then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch on the tarmac of an airport. According to Lynch, she and Bill Clinton talked about their grandchildren and the news of the day. However, at the time, Hillary Clinton was under investigation by the DOJ for the use of a private email server.

Republicans went ballistic. Donald Trump himself said that he was “flabbergasted. I actually thought … ‘No way, there’s no way that’s gonna happen’ and it happened.” Trump told Fox News. “I think it’s amazing. I’ve never seen anything like that before.”

Cut to four years later, and not only is Donald Trump president, but he is literally controlling his Attorney General William Barr. He’s not “meeting” with Barr on the tarmac while he and his associates are under investigation. He’s ordering his Attorney General to take charge of those investigations, to remove personnel, to drop cases, to insist on more lenient sentences.

Under William Barr’s leadership at the DOJ, the Justice Department has intervened in both the sentencing recommendations for Roger Stone and Michael Flynn. The U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., Jessie Liu, also had his nomination for a job as an undersecretary at the Treasury Department rescinded because he oversaw Roger Stone’s case. Meanwhile, even after Donald Trump was impeached, William Barr has acknowledged that he still maintains a vetting process whereby he accepts tips about the Bidens and Ukraine from Rudy Giuliani. From The Washington Post:

Biden is among the Democrats seeking to challenge Trump for the presidency. That Giuliani would have a direct pipeline to the Justice Department for providing information on a political rival of Trump raised fears among some legal analysts that federal law enforcement was being conscripted into doing campaign work for the president.

Recall, also, that William Barr essentially lied about the Mueller report and neutralized its findings before the full report was released, unilaterally exonerating Trump of obstruction of justice despite the clear roadmap for an obstruction of justice charge in the Mueller report.

It’s time for William Barr to go.

Yeah, we just got out of an impeachment trial, and yes, the Republicans acquitted Donald Trump, and yes, Donald Trump has been taking his vengeance out upon everyone who wronged him.

But we need to do it again.

William Barr has clearly put the interests of the President over the interests of the country and the Constitution. There are already ample examples of this, and the House hasn’t even opened an official inquiry. The House needs to do so because while the Republican Senate obviously had no interest in convicting Donald Trump, would they stick by William Barr? More importantly, would Trump stand by him through another trial that would drag the administration through another couple of months of negative headlines? And how much corruption would Barr engage in during an investigation (the answer: A lot, but maybe not as much as usual).

This should be the first step toward a broader investigation and another impeachment trial. The Democrats may not be able to convict them of crimes, but hell if they can’t put them on trial and expose them for the world to see.

While Kamala has him, maybe she can ask William Barr about the perjury he committed last time she questioned him.

(Should have been Kamala — who actually has a pathway forward — instead of Klobuchar, and that’s all I’m going to say about that).
