How Long Will Fox News and the GOP Stand Behind Their Indicted Frontrunner?

There will be over 30 criminal counts in the indictment. He is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday. He will be fingerprinted. There will be a mug shot. I have no idea what kind of legs this will have. Last night, Fox News went into meltdown mode, but it was all in defense of Trump:

It is not the same as getting a haircut two weeks before the election.

How long before people take stock of the fact that they’re rallying around a guy who paid off a porn star? Is the entire Republican party going to go to bat for him? Over the long term? Trump has hung so many of his party members out to dry. Will they do the same? Trump tried to get a crowd to hang Mike Pence. How much help is he going to be? How long is Meatball Ron going to stick up for him? The top fold over on Fox News, by the way, only really has one story on the indictment, and that story is about how Ron DeSantis responded to it. There’s not a word in that story about Trump’s response.

They hate him. They’re only going to stick by him for as long as their readers insist upon it. They’re gonna raise some hell today, and probably on the day of the indictment, but the political noise surrounding the indictment will ultimately fade and leave us with a Republican “frontrunner” who is facing over 30 criminal charges in this case, not to mention the other criminal charges potentially pending against him for January 6th and election interference in Georgia, among others. I don’t think this is going to bring Trump the support he thinks it will.

The causeway that leads to Mar-a-Lago has long been a rally spot for Trump supporters, especially during his presidency, when they would regularly gather to cheer on his motorcade.

But as the sun set along the causeway Thursday, more people were fishing for sand perch and croaker than had shown up to the support the former president. Shortly before 8 p.m., only a half dozen Trump supporters had amassed in their usual spot.
