Early this morning, we reported that the House GOP had voted to gut the Office of Congressional Ethics. That vote, however, had not gone to the full House, but the Goodlatte amendment was expected to pass.
However, the House GOP has just pulled the amendment amid public outcry.

#Breaking: The Office of Congressional Ethics will continue after terrible, heated backlash from news of Congressman Goodlatte's chicanery.

The media did its fucking job, and it worked! So did your phone calls.
Two calls today, to my Congressman, @RepJeffries, and the office of Bob Goodlatte. I doubt it was a tweet that turned the tide. It was us.

I’m sure the fact that Donald Trump spoke out against the timing of the legislation didn’t hurt, either, although it doesn’t appear that he was against the amendment just the prioritization of it.
With all that Congress has to work on, do they really have to make the weakening of the Independent Ethics Watchdog, as unfair as it

……..may be, their number one act and priority. Focus on tax reform, healthcare and so many other things of far greater importance! #DTS

That, folks, is a victory, no matter how small. Also proof that we can affect change if we raise enough hell.
Goodlatte didn't get away with gutting OCE this time. Power to the people!!!! Thank you to every single one of you who called your reps!

Keep at it, y’all. Four more years. Don’t let a goddamn thing slide.
Now we just need to figure out why Bob Goodlatte proposed the amendment. I think an investigation is in order. Office of Congressional Ethics, you should get on that.
