George Santos — best known in the halls of Congress as the lying liar who lies — has been taken into custody this morning. He will appear in federal court later today to answer to a 13-count indictment, which includes seven counts of wire fraud, three counts of money laundering, one count of theft of public funds, and two counts of making materially false statements to the House of Representatives.

Neither Santos’s attorney nor his spokesman has yet offered comment. Kevin McCarthy, the Speaker of the House, has also not stated whether he will expel Santos from Congress in light of the charges. Santos announced his 2024 reelection campaign last month. Until he is expelled or resigns, he can continue to serve as a Congressperson. Santos does not seem like the resigning type. He seems like the kind of person who will claim that the 13-count indictment is a cover for an undercover sting operation.

Here is an incomplete list of his lies and misdeeds.

— He claimed to have graduated from Columbia University and Harvard Business School, but he did not.
— He claimed to have worked for Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, but he did not.
— He claimed to be Jewish, but he is not.
— He claimed that his mother died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, but she did not.
— He claimed that his apartment was robbed, but it was not.
— He allegedly stole money from a disabled veteran who came to him for help funding a life-saving surgery for his dog.
— He allegedly misappropriated funds that he had raised on behalf of animal welfare.

The charges against him are related to a fraudulent political contribution solicitation scheme, an unemployment insurance fraud scheme, and lying on his financial disclosure forms to Congress.
