Fox News Wants You To Blame Botham Jean For His Murder By The Off-Duty Cop Who Broke Into His Home

On September 6, off-duty Dallas police officer Amber Guyger shot and killed a 26-year-old black man named Botham Jean, because she thought he was in her apartment. He was home. She had mistaken his apartment for hers. She’s facing manslaughter charges. But Fox News is looking to put him on trial.

Fox News would have you believe that marijuana in Jean’s apartment means he deserved being shot to death in his own home. It’s a move meant to demonize Jean, who Time reports was a college graduate, a devout Christian, a beloved son, and a caring friend. At the young man’s funeral, his college friend Alexis Stossel said, “He was always in the service of others, even when it wasn’t convenient for him.” Michael Griffin, minister at the Singing Hills of Church of Christ, described Jean as “a light in a dark room.”

That Jean may have had some pot in his apartment changes none of that. Yes, marijuana is illegal in Texas. But Guyger was not in Jean’s home in her capacity as an officer of the law. She was trespassing. And she killed him. The Fox News angle is blatant racist propaganda that suggests even when an off-duty cop murders a black man in cold blood in his own home, it’s somehow still his fault. They are grasping at straws to paint Jean as a criminal who got what he deserved.

Twitter was alive with outrage over Fox’s latest shameless display of white supremacy.

Rest in power, Jean. Go to hell, Fox News.
